The village of Rieux-Minervois dates back to the 11th century. It is typically French, with a twice weekly market and a relaxed atmosphere. Guests will enjoy walking through its narrow winding streets where one will find traces of ancient houses and the castle overlooking the river. Rieux lies on one of the pilgrimage routes leading to Santiago de Campostela which explains the very rare 12th century heptagonal church, with its superb columns by the master of Cabestany. The village tourist information office is extremely helpful in providing further information on the wide variety of activities within the area, such as walking, boating, cycling etc.

Peyriac Minervois which is only 2 minutes drive away has an open air swimming pool which is open July & August.

The village of Trèbes is a 10 minute drive away, which sits on the beautiful Canal du Midi (a World Heritage Site). Here there are fine restaurants and shops, but the real treat is a walk beside the canal, or a boat ride is available if you just want to rest and enjoy the view. You can even cycle along the banks of the canal, as bike hire is available next to the Tourist Information Centre.

Trèbes also has a municipal swimming pool that you can enjoy. En route to Trèbes, why not stop and look around the village of Rustiques, which is an award winner in the village / ville fleuri competition of France? A look at the beautiful floral displays and the park in this old-world village justifies this prestigious award. A 45 minute drive to the east brings you to Narbonne, a wonderful city with beautiful beaches, great markets, historical buildings at the end of cobbled streets, many shops and cafés, and leisure activities, such as a boat trip along the canal. In fact, there are activities and places to visit too numerous to list, in this region of France..

August 2010
Hi Vanessa,

You have the most beautiful property and we had a wonderful holiday.
I now have a new favourite region of France.
Regards
Eamonn

August 2010

Hi Vanessa,

Just to say that we had a really lovely holiday staying at La Maison de Wisteria which we found very comfortable. We loved the balcony and sat out most evenings enjoying the wine, local food and the warm weather. We loved the town of Rieux and the little Church is so beautiful. We have driven around the countryside and stopped at some wonderful places, including having a wine tasting tour and meal, which was great.

Many thanks, Sarah, Jackie, John and Phil
