The Town
Huelgoat is a pretty town with a lovely market square and large lake, and is famous for its giant granite boulders and woodlands. It is situated within the Natural Regional Park D'Amorique. The forest next to the town is said to be where King Arthur's treasure is buried. A pleasant network of trails take walkers past caves, menhirs, unusual geographical formations, including the precariously named Trembling Rock, and past abandoned lead and silver mines. Maps and leaflets are available from the pretty tourist office in the town.
The town offers a range of bars, créperie & restaurants, shops (charcuterie, boulangeries, pharmacies, paper & book shops with English papers, supermarkets) and has a market on Thursdays offering a wide range of foods and local specialities. There is also a well known botanic garden, a centre for local honey, a public open air pool (within easy walking distance of the house) and tennis courts. Art exhibitions and equestrian events are also held in the town.
A ten minute stroll, will take you to the town square.
